Bimpe quickly put on her clothes, a pair of jeans and a polo shirt, there was no time for makeup. One of the best makeup artists in the city will be on hand tomorrow to do justice to her face. She took her handbag and car keys, gave instructions to the senior maid and zoomed out of the house.

It was obvious that the lord was on her side that Saturday as the roads was free from traffic. She picked Bola from her house at exactly 10minutes as she predicted. They headed for “Dotun’s apparel” a seamstress only for the wealthiest of the wealthy in the city can afford.

Immediately they got to the cloth shop at Ikoyi, Bola looked at Bimpe and said: “Aunty B, promise me we won’t sleep here today”. Bimpe replied with a long laugh, then said: “you meant to say, I am a long chooser when it comes to fashion”. Bola just smiled and said “hmmm, I never said anything”, “let’s go inside joor, naughty girl,” Bimpe said as they alighted from the car.

Bola was the first daughter of Bimpe’s best friend Momore, it was love at first sight for Bimpe, and the pair have been inseparable since her birth.

The fact that Bimpe was blessed with just three boys made Bola her daughter automatically. She virtually grew up in Bimpe’s house, spending holidays and long vacations.

At 23, Bola had passed out from National Service and was studying for her last semester in her master’s degree programme. Like her godmother, she grew up to be a very fashionable lady with high taste in fashion, making her Bimpe’s personal fashion consultant.

Mrs Dotun had made a lot of dresses from which Bimpe would choose from, you are right to say she knows her customers well enough. Within an hour and with the help from Bola, Bimpe made her choice to everyone’s surprise.

. It was unlike her. Bimpe looked at both of them and said “excuse me! I will be 50 tomorrow, a lot of things about me must change”. Bola and Mrs Dotun couldn’t control the laughter, it was a good change.

The trip back to Bimpe’s house at Lekki was a long one, the normal Lagos traffic had taken over due to the usual “Owambe”. It was an opportunity for both ladies to gist in the car, they might not have the time when they get home due to tomorrow’s party.

In the midst of their discussion, Bola’s phone rang, she looked at it, hissed and threw it back into her bag. Bimpe watched as her countenance changed. “Who was that on the phone?” Bimpe asked.

Bola hesitated before answering with a frown “it was Dapo”. “Lovebirds! Hope all is well?” Replied Bimpe. “He is rushing me, what is it sef, he can look elsewhere for all I care”, said Bola.

“This is serious, what is happening?” Just then, Bimpe phone rang, it was Bola’s mum Momore calling from the U.K, it was going to be a long call.
